Airbus secures comms at title deciding Abu Dhabi GP

The organisers of the recent Abu Dhabi Grand Prix have thanked Airbus for providing secure communications solutions at the title-deciding final Formula One race of the season.

A thrilling race at the 5.28km Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi saw Red Bull Racing’s Dutch driver Jos Verstappen secure the Formula One Drivers' Championship ahead of Mercedes’ British driver Lewis Hamilton.

Throughout the race weekend F1’s official secure communications technology provider in the emirate deployed its TETRA and long-term evolution (LTE) solutions to help secure the race site and support drivers, teams and spectators.

Airbus supplied its TH9 TETRA radio, TH1n Radio Console System and recently launched push-to-talk-over-cellular (PoC) application Tactilon Agnet to security teams at the Yas Island circuit throughout the Grand Prix events.

The Airbus Tactilon Agnet application platform runs on desktops and standard smartphones as well as ruggedised devices to provide what the company describes as “a future-proof mobile communication solution for emergencies such as the removal of Nicholas Latifi’s damaged Williams’ car from the circuit.

Earlier this year, Airbus won the contract to “expand and improve” TETRA coverage at the 2022 Winter Olympics and supplied secure communications for the season opening 2021 Bahrain Grand Prix.
