L3Harris Technologies’ public safety market manager, Don Griffis, discusses why it was important for the company to join TCCA

Don Griffis

Could you introduce L3Harris for readers who might not know about the company. What are its key areas of focus, technologically speaking?

L3Harris Technologies Inc is a leading American aerospace and defence company. Headquartered in Melbourne, Florida, the company operates globally, providing advanced technologies across air, land, sea, space and cyber domains.

With approximately 47,000 employees, L3Harris is organised into four major business segments. These are Integrated Mission Systems, Space and Airborne Systems, Communications Systems and Rocketjet Aerodyne. We deliver a wide range of products and services, including tactical radios, avionics, electronic warfare systems, night vision equipment, intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance [ISR] solutions.

L3Harris is the trusted disruptor in the defence industry. With customers’ mission-critical needs always in mind, our employees deliver end-to-end technology solutions connecting space, air, land, sea and cyber domains in the interest of national security.

Why was the decision made to join TCCA? Why is it important for L3Harris?

In recent years, the Public Safety and Professional Communications Division of L3Harris has been growing our international presence. With the introduction of our MCX Two47 server - based on the 3GPP global standard - we wanted to become a member of a premier global organisation, TCCA.

We are fully committed to interoperability and believe in the power of standards-based applications to achieve this. Joining the TCCA -which is a leader in the global development and promotion of mission critical communication standards for professional users - was an obvious choice in helping shape the critical communications of today and tomorrow.

Can you talk a little about your strategy for Critical Communications World. What do you hope to achieve, and how does that tie in with your operations in this part of Europe?

We forecast several MCX nationwide opportunities. By attending Critical Communications World 2025, we hope to build our brand presence and engage with other like-minded providers. This is to gain knowledge and perhaps look to solution providers to help us all grow within the global, standards based, mission critical communications arena.

Another part of our strategic vision is to work alongside key decision-makers on the need for, and benefits of, open standards, including 3GPP. Therefore creating more open and competitive markets.

Why is CCW an important event for the sector and for L3Harris?

Critical Communications World is a very important event for us to attend because it is a conduit to provide higher international brand awareness. In addition, our presence will allow other international users, agencies and vendors to better understand our dedication to standards-based solutions for mission critical users. This includes our 3GPP standards based MCX and APCO standards-based P25 offerings.

We hope to learn more about the desires of the international community and work to create solutions that will benefit those within that community. We know that by being a part of TCCA and attending CCW, will be able to meet with other TCCA members which design, develop and deliver critical communications and promote standards-based solutions for these markets.
