SEPURA-BLUE-LOGO.pngGerman utility RWE Power has signed a 10-year managed services contract for its existing Sepura TETRA network in Cologne, Germany.

Under the contract, Sepura will provide 24/7 TETRA network support for the company’s site at Rhenish lignite mining area – the largest lignite coalfield in Europe – and will include the delivery, installation and commissioning of a system upgrade comprising a central node, 24 base stations, a non-redundant emergency base station and in-house repeaters. The updated system will be fully IP-based.

The original system, installed in 2006, uses more than 3,000 Sepura radios; users will experience no downtime throughout the upgrade process.

“We have a long history with RWE Power,” said Hooman Safaie, Sepura's regional director for DACH (Germany, Austria and Switzerland).

“With a lignite coal production of more than 90 million tonnes and a power generation of around 70 billion kwh per year at the Rhenish lignite mining area alone, the company is a giant in its field. It is gratifying that they have placed their trust in us once again…”

“Sepura has been a reliable TETRA system supplier and service provider for us over the last decade,” said Werner Hoss, RWE Power’s division manager, telecommunications. “They have a deep understanding of the technical requirements of our industry and I am satisfied that this new agreement will ensure cost-effective onsite communications for the next 10 years.”
