Moldova: Motorola Solutions wins contract to rollout nationwide TETRA coverage

Motorola Solutions has signed a contract with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova for the expansion of the latter’s mission-critical TETRA communications network.

Within the framework of the contract, Motorola Solutions will extend the existing TETRA digital radio network and build a nationwide TETRA network for the Moldovan police.

The project will be implemented by 2020 in collaboration with the subcontractor Bass Systems and funded by the EU Budget Support 2 to support the Moldovan Police Reform.

To extend and upgrade the existing TETRA network in Moldova, Motorola Solutions will provide the Republic’s public safety organisations with its DIMETRA X Core TETRA system (which features a software-defined core and smart interfaces) and additional TETRA infrastructure equipment including its MTS1 and MTS4 TETRA base stations as well as microwave links for IP connectivity. The technology will be staged at Motorola Solutions’ TETRA Center of Excellence in Berlin, Germany.

“We have decades of experience in delivering and implementing nationwide TETRA systems to public safety organisations in Europe and around the world,” explains Michael Kaae, vice president MSSSI Northern & Eastern Europe at Motorola Solutions. “Our technology enables the police in Moldova to stay connected when seconds count, and to focus on their mission to make cities and communities safer.”

“The mission-critical TETRA communications systems and infrastructure from Motorola Solutions will allow us to realise an important objective of our Police Reform: creating a reliable and efficient communications system for best operational practice within the police,” said Alexandru Jizdan, minister of the interior of the Republic of Moldova. “The expansion of our TETRA system will bring great benefits to our police and our citizens.”
