The Belgian Ministry of Defence has chosen Airbus to provide its radio systems.
The company will be delivering what Airbus calls its “newest generation of deployable radio solutions,” equipped with its Tetra Taira servers.
According to Airbus, Taira incorporates virtualised server functions ensuring equivalent services to that of standard Airbus DXT switches. The system also incorporates Airbus’ pico base station, which covers tiny areas.
The deployable radio solution comprises terminals, accessories and tools. The agreement between the Belgian armed forces and Airbus also includes a lifelong maintenance contract.
A spokesperson for the company said: “Belgian defence will be able to use these highly compact radio solutions for any kind of mission, in the country or abroad. We will start delivering the systems in the first two quarters of 2018.”
The spokesperson continued: “These solutions are fully interoperable with Belgium’s emergency and security services radio network ASTRID, which itself is based on Airbus Tetra technology.”
